35 people share changes big and small that dramatically improved their mental health I had a good psychiatrist examine me all over and discovered that I needed to take prescription strength vitamin D capsules every week and give myself B vitamin injections every two weeks. I cried for days because I suddenly had the energy and could think straight. I have been nutritionally deficient for twenty years because my GI doctor never tested me for nutritional deficiencies after multiple bowel resections for Crohn’s disease. But my soul caught it and it changed my life.

35 people share changes big and small that dramatically improved their mental health It works poorly. I used to hate my mom for telling me that exercise would relieve my depression, but she was absolutely right. The thing is, when you’re really depressed, that’s the last thing you want to do. But nothing has had a more positive impact on my mental state than regular exercise.

35 people share changes big and small that dramatically improved their mental health treat. I planned my suicide and decided it was time to leave. The first visit was like an elephant to me. I’m so sad that I actually wanted to kill myself to get help. But I’m heading in the right direction. I feel like Hispanic, I was programmed to retain it. Not sharing my feelings. This is no longer the case. Although my father viewed me going to a therapist as a weakness, it was really a strength.

35 people share changes big and small that dramatically improved their mental health Work in a drug-free job. For as long as I can remember, I have been bullied at school, at home, and in the workplace. My current job is the best paying, least stressful job I have ever had. For the first time I was able to de-stress, I didn’t have to worry about work on my days off, and I was even able to stand up for myself instead of locking myself away. No amount of self-care was going to work until I truly experienced it.

35 people share changes big and small that dramatically improved their mental health Deliberately practice gratitude. Every night before I go to sleep, I start thinking about three different things that I am grateful for. I didn’t even write it down – just took 5 seconds to think about, three things (but no generic “friends family food” repeat answer). Doing this every night for a few months completely changed my mood.

I suffer from mental illness, so I really hate the gratitude healing type stuff, but when combined with real therapy, practicing gratitude is a scientifically proven mood booster, and I’m blown away by the difference it makes.

35 people share changes big and small that dramatically improved their mental health If applicable, have bedtimes even on weekends.

Don’t make phone calls 2 hours before going to bed.

Drink all water, although not after 7:30 pm.

Sober for nearly 8 months.

Exercise every day. Weighing is done 4 days a week. Perform aerobic exercise after weigh-ins 2 days a week. Perform physical activity yoga every day, 30 minutes every morning and 30 minutes before going to bed.

Get up at 5:00-5:30 in the morning.

Carry your library card with you. Reading is so important and fun. Passing this on to my almost three year old.

Remove myself from situations that don’t bring me joy or make my anxiety worse.

35 people share changes big and small that dramatically improved their mental health Mixed work. I didn’t really realize how much my commute and the constant chatter in the office was taking a toll on my mental health until the pandemic hit. Unfortunately, my employer has gone back to being a full-time RTO and my mental health has been deteriorating. Hopefully I will find a new job soon.

35 people share changes big and small that dramatically improved their mental health Total transparency? Psychedelics.

The brain is like a snow mountain. Every thought is like a sleigh ride down the mountain, leaving a trail. As you think about the same thoughts, certain grooves will become deeper and deeper, and your brain will form thinking habits that are difficult to break. Taking LSD could make that mountain covered with new snow. The result is a lot of introspection and new perspective on your life.

In this way, it can be a very effective way to treat depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. The most widely known psychedelic drug is non-toxic and non-addictive. What’s more, they can be “anti-addiction,” helping addicts of other substances overcome their habits.

Now, magic pills are not a panacea for everyone’s mental health, and there are some risks associated with taking them if you have a family history of mental illness, or if you have certain heart problems. But after a lot of research I thought I’d give it a try and boy was it a game changer.
